The Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) is compiled by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Under the federal law called the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), we as the public have the right to know about toxic chemicals released into our environment and communities. Under the Toxic Release Inventory, major emitters are required to report releases of 650 toxic chemicals into the air, water and soil.

If you discover that there is one or more Toxic Release Inventory site, and you want more details, you can contact the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to learn the current status of permits held by the facility. DEC Regional offices should be listed when you click on any point on the map. You have the right to comment on and be involved with any proposed change to the permits held by the facilities. When you contact the DEC, request to be added to the "facility list." You can ask the DEC for any past violations.
once you have more information about the facility, contact CEC or your local community group. You can help monitor the company, work with them to reduce their pollution, and hold them accountable to environmental laws.
